Kougs softball get AAC sweep over Sandburg on the road

April 21, 2026 - The Kishwaukee College Softball team travelled to Galesburg Tuesday to take on Sandburg College in their final Arrowhead Conference doubleheader with the Chargers. The Kougars would come away with the doubleheader and four game series sweep after two thrilling one run games.  In game one, Kaelyn Williams struck out 10 batters as the pitcher led Kish to a 5-4 victory. Williams gave up 11 hits and four runs over seven innings while walking two.  Sandburg opened the scoring in the fourth after home run to left field, scoring two runs.  Kishwaukee got those back and more in the top of the sixth, scoring five runs on five hits to take the lead, 5-2. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Williams that drove in three.  Sami Simms had three hits, Avery Boehne collected two hits and Lillie Gebel a hit for Kish.  Kayla Tofari and Georgia Gallardo had a run scored each plus Lilli Delhotal and Madison Hallaron contributed an RBI each.

Game two was a high scoring affair but would eventally lead to a 10-9 win for the Kougars as Kish, down 9-8, would score two runs on a Sami Simms single to take the lead for good in the top of the fifth.  The Kougs scored first in the first inning after Kaelyn Williams drew a walk, scoring one run.  In the bottom of the first inning, the Chargers went back into the lead after an error, a single to left field, then consecutive double and fielders choice, each scoring one run.  Paezleigh Hudgin singled to left field, which helped Kish tie the game at four in the top of the second.  Down 5-4 going into the third, Kishwaukee took the lead after Makenzie Mann doubled to right field, Brooke Jackson singled down the left field line, Simms doubled to right field, and Hudgin singled to right field, each scoring one run.  Sandburg would tie it in the bottom of the third and take the lead in the fourth 9-8 until Kish plated two more in their fifth for the win.  Avery Boehne earned the win for the Kougars in relief surrendering just two hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out three and walking none. Allison Abell led things off in the circle for Kish surrendering five earned runs over three innings, striking out none and walking one.  

The Kougars piled up 12 hits in the game as Simms had three hits while she and Hudgin drove in three runs each. Madison Hallaron, Jackson, and Georgia Gallardo each collected multiple hits as well.  Kishwaukee will travel to Bryant & Stratton College (WI) on Wednesday for a doubleheader before returning home to play I-88 rival Waubonsee in Kish's "Play for Maggie" Strike Out Cancer doubleheader games to raise money for childhood cancer prevention research with first game at 3:00 pm.
