April 3, 2026 - The Kishwaukee Softball team hosted Arrowhead Conference rival Sandburg College on Friday taking two nailbiters in the end with a 4-3 extra inning opening game win and a 3-2 victory in game two. It came down to the wire in game one, as Kish grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion as Kaelyn Williams singled, scoring the game wining run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Sami Simms collected four hits in four at bats in the win as Simms hit a solo home run to center field in the fifth inning, doubled in the third inning, singled in the first inning, and singled in the eighth inning. Sandburg opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to two singles scoring one run. Allison Abell hit a sacrifice fly, which helped the Kougars tie the game at two in the bottom of the fourth. Simms' solo home run to center field gave Kishwaukee the lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the fifth but the Chargers tied the game in the top of the seventh. Williams earned the win for Kish surrendering eight hits and three runs (two earned) over eight innings, striking out eight and walking one. The Kougs tallied 13 hits in the game as Paezleigh Hudgin and Williams each collected multiple hits while Lilli Delhotal and Madison Hallaron had a hit each.
Both teams were strong in the circle in game two but Kishwaukee would pull out the 3-2 victory. Sandburg scored in the top of the third. Avery Boehne hit a sacrifice fly, which helped the Kougs tie the game at one in the bottom of the third. In the bottom of the sixth, the Kougars broke up the tie when Brooke Jackson doubled, scoring one run adn which would turn out to be the game winning RBI. Then a single by Makenzie Mann followed to extend the lead to 3-1. The Chargers managed a solo home run in the top of the seventh but that was as close as they would get as Williams earned the save. Boehne started in the circle for Kish, going 6 innings allowing seven hits, just 2 earned runs while stricking out five. Kish amassed 11 hits in the game as Allison Abell, Georgia Gallardo, and Sami Simms each collected two hits for Kish while Mann, Jackson, and Boehne had the RBI.
Kishwaukee 16-11 overall (5-4 in AAC play) will travel to Black Hawk College in the two teams' final Arrowhead Conference regular season doubleheader against each other Tuesday.
