November 24, 2025 - The Kishwaukee Kougars Fortnite duo of Clayton Lindgren (DeKalb HS) and Nathan Knight (Aurora Christian HS) delivered a resilient and strategic performance in the National Quarterfinals, overcoming early adversity and powering their way into the NJCAAE National Semifinals on December 8th.
The opening match didn't go the Kougars' way, with the team taking an early loss after struggling to gain momentum off spawn. In Match 2, both squads fought to a dead-even finish, resulting in a rare, tied round. Because of the tie, Lindgren and Knight regrouped, refocused, and secured the opportunity to replay the match—an advantage they capitalized on immediately.
During the replay, Bergen Community College was knocked out early, leaving both teams tied in eliminations at a crucial moment. Under pressure, Lindgren and Knight dug deep, battling through the chaos of rotating teams and third-party threats. With remarkable poise, the pair secured one clutch elimination, tipping the scoreboard in their favor and taking the round win.
Momentum carried into Match 3, where both teams surfed toward the same region of the island, landing nearly side by side. A fierce close-quarters scramble broke out. Knight dominated the engagement, emerging with three eliminations, while Lindgren secured an elimination of his own and successfully claimed the powerful boss's sword, shifting map control toward Kishwaukee. Shortly after, Lindgren located a cluster of bots and executed a full squad wipe, padding the team's elimination total. Bergen's duo was caught in the crossfire moments later and was eliminated, giving Kish a convincing win and a 2–1 lead heading into Match 4.
Match 4 opened with immediate fireworks. Clayton struck first with an elimination, setting the tone early, but was eliminated soon afterward. With pressure mounting, Knight responded like a veteran—purchasing a reboot card, bringing Lindgren back into the match, and securing two additional eliminations to keep the Kougars ahead.
From there, Lindgren and Knight demonstrated outstanding composure and tactical awareness, maneuvering through waves of opponents, utilizing cover, mobility, and careful rotations to evade threats from fully staffed real enemy teams. Bergen, however, couldn't escape the heat of the late-game firefights and fell before the final circles closed.
Their elimination sealed the outcome: Kishwaukee wins the series and advances to the National Semifinals, where they will compete on December 8th for a chance to continue their championship pursuit.
The Kougars' ability to rebound from early setbacks, adapt their strategy, and deliver under pressure once again showcases their growth, teamwork, and resolve. Lindgren and Knight now stand just one series away from the National Championship stage—and they're carrying serious momentum with them.
