Baseball wins nailbiter then completes comeback in game two over Illinois Valley

April 15, 2025 - The Kishwaukee College Baseball team hosted Illinois Valley CC Tuesday in front of a home crowd and coming away with an exciting two game sweep.  In game one, there were runs aplenty on Tuesday, as Kish won 9-8. The Kougars collected 13 hits, while IVCC had 13.  Kishwaukee got on the board in the first inning after Sawyer Larson hit into a double play, but one run scored.  IVCC captured the lead, 2-1, while adding another run in the third. Kish flipped the game in the bottom of the third, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 6-3. The biggest blow in the inning was an error that drove in two.  John Schulte earned the win for the Kougars giving up nine hits and five runs (three earned) over five innings, striking out two and walking two. Jacob Mersman and Brock Metzger each appeared in relief for Kish.  Larson led Kish with three runs batted in and going 3-for-4. Jonathan Hartline and Will Baumgartner bothl collected three hits and Daelen Figueroa added two hits.

Despite trailing by as many as five runs, Kishwaukee rallied to top IVCC 8-6 in game two. IVCC got on the board in the top of the second inning scoring three runs.  The Eagles added another run in the third. The Kougars started the rest of their comeback in the bottom of the sixth, scoring five runs on two hits to take the lead, 8-5. The biggest blow in the inning was an error that drove in two. Will Baumgartner stepped on the bump first for Kish as the hurler surrendered seven hits and five runs over five innings, striking out two and walking one. Sawyer Larson appeared in relief for Kishwaukee while also leading Kish going 3-for-4. Daelen Figueroa collected two hits in four at bats. The Kougars took advantage with a strong eye at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game that helped the comeback. Dalton Rutherford and Lenox Estremera led the team with two bases on balls each. Jonathan Hartline stole two bases.

Kishwaukee will next host Morton College on Thursday weather permitting.
