Krystal Gundy has been named as the new Head Women's Basketball Coach at Kishwaukee College. Coach Gundy is a native of Bloomington, Illinois and holds an Associate degree from Lake Land College, a B.S. degree in Physical Education with a minor in Coaching from MacMurray College and an M.B.A. from Lindenwood University. Prior to accepting the position at Kishwaukee, Krystal was the Women's Head Basketball Coach at Rend Lake Community College in downstate Illinois. She began her career at Rend Lake as an Assistant Coach in 2014 and then was named Head Coach for the 2015 -2017 seasons. She has also been an Assistant Coach at Lindenwood University and helped the team to the United State Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Tournament two consecutive years.
As a player, Krystal played for Normal Community High School as a guard/forward and was moved to the varsity team midway through her sophomore year. She was named Big 12 First Team All-Conference for her senior year in 2006. She was recruited to play at Lake Land under a full-ride athletic scholarship and then at MacMurray, where she was a two-sport athlete, playing soccer in addition to basketball. Post college, she played semi-pro basketball in St. Louis with the Arch Angels in the Women's Blue Chip Basketball League (WBCBL).
She is excited to being back at the helm of a women's communty college team and ready to build the program. "My philosophy is back to the basics and hard work. You must sharpen all areas of your game in order to evolve into a better player and with that means hard work and dedication on and off the court," she explained. "My motto for the season is : Trust the Process."
Krystal remembers facing the Kishwaukee College Kougars when she played for Lake Land in 2006 and 2007. "I remember the team was very impressive," she recalled. "My goal is to put Kishwaukee Women's Basketball back on the map!"
